It is always exciting to be part of a groundbreaking discovery. Think about how much hype surrounds the release of a new Apple® product. People stand in line for hours to be part of something revolutionary. In the IVM industry, we’ve had our own version of these releases. We’re sure you remember the release of Esplanade 200 SC and the impact it made on the bare ground market. It was BIG. We had never experienced a product that was so well received with so many features and benefits. We also learned that Esplanade has post emergence activity on Plantain species.
In October we spent two days in Raleigh, NC learning about a new product called Derigo. This new herbicide, released by Bayer, will have a Southeastern U.S. focus due to the warm-season grasses that dominate the roadsides. Derigo has three NEW active ingredients that are selective to unimproved warm-season-grass areas. Derigo herbicide may be used as a foliar spray to control annual and perennial broadleaf weeds in grasses such as Bermudagrass, Centipedegrass, and Zoysiagrass.
An equally exciting announcement was just released regarding Bayer Crop Science. This premier manufacturer of herbicides has purchased the Land Management assets of DuPont, creating a new and stronger IVM business. Matt Nespeca, IVM business manager, highly respected individual, and good friend of CWC, will be taking the helm of this new endeavor. We’re excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. As a result of this purchase, all of the vegetation specialists you have come to know with DuPont have been hired by Bayer and will continue providing assistance in their areas of expertise.
